Mapco Foundation in Africa

At Mapco we are acutely aware that not everyone in the world has enough food to eat. The gap between rich and poor is as great as it has ever been. Which is why we have set up the Mapco Foundation, a charitable trust working with the less well off in Africa. By helping Africans establish self-sustaining businesses Mapco hope to help build lives and communities.

Why the fish business?

The reason we are in the fish business is because we believe fish protein is a valuable addition to people’s diet. If you are struggling to feed yourself effectively on a very low income, fish heads can make the basis for soups and stews. By providing high-quality fish heads to the African market we are helping in a practical way.

In establishing the Mapco Foundation we are taking practical help one step further. It’s difficult to stand by and do nothing when you see other human beings struggle to make a life. In some small way we hope to work with local African people and to help them to help themselves.

Charities Aid Foundation

In order to do that we are now affiliated with the Charities Aid Foundation, a very useful UK organisation which exists to support companies and individuals wishing to give to charity. They will help us structure our charitable giving tax-effectively and provide us with useful advice as we move forwards.

Why work with the CAF?

The CAF have very high standards and are very credible. They are the largest not for profit organisation offering this service in the UK. The Charities Aid Foundation currently work with 45,000 charities, 280,000 donors, 7,000 companies and work Internationally. 

In their own words, CAF is an international UK registered charity. Its mission is to motivate society to give ever more effectively, and help transform lives and communities around the world. It advises on and distributes charitable funds around the world and has offices in nine countries: the UK, America, Brazil, Russia, India, Australia, Singapore, Southern Africa and Bulgaria.
